1. Majesty Da God – The Apollo EP
Genre: Rap, Hip Hop
RIYL: Jay-Z, Kanye, Kendrick Lamar
Some great rap tracks on this album. My personal favorite would have to be the last song, which uses lyrics from the Britney Spears’ song “Toxic.” Now, I know not all of you are Britney fans, especially my rap guys, but trust me, it’s sick! Has a Kanye West, eerie, church vibe to it.

2. Stone Sour – Meanwhile In Burbank
Genre: Alternative Rock
RIYL: Shinedown, Sick Puppies, Korn, Drowning Pool
This band is a little blast from my past. Anybody else listen to their song “Through Glass” like 10 plus years ago? Who knew they were still making music! And good music, I should add! Has a good hard rock feel to it with the power guitars and edgy vocals.

3. Garden City Movement- Modern West
Genre: Electronica
RIYL: Glass Animals, Caribou, Ryan Hemsworth
We got their EP in last year and I was so stoked to see that we got their new album! Every track is catchy and I swear for a minute, I thought I was listening to Glass Animals! Chill, electronic music that puts you in a daze.

4. Pocket Panda- This Arrangement of Molecules
Genre: Indie Folk Rock
RIYL: Snow Patrol, Lumineers, The National
Some good vibes coming from this album! Think of yourself lost in a meadow of tall, gently blowing grass as the sun is beating down on you or going on a road trip through the mountains as it lightly snows, with a good friend. This album is the soundtrack to those experiences! Atleast, those are the images I picture when listening to the album haha.

5. Tom West – Oncoming Clouds
Genre: Folk, Singer Songwriter
RIYL: Bon Iver, Iron and Wine, Fleet Foxes, Alt-J
If the Lumineers and Alt-J had a baby together, Tom West would be it! Very similar vocals to Joe Newman of Alt-J, but more of a folky vibe like the Lumineers. Every song gives you the feels. Chilling next to a fireplace on a cold winters day with hot chocolate and your bae is what this album is the soundtrack to. Great homework music as well!

1. Madeon: Adventure
Genre- Electronic, dubstep, remixes
RIYL- Daft punk, Passion Pit, Avicii, Zedd, Odesza
Information- Super cool electronic music. Apparently he just turned 20 years old?! Lots of talent here! Has Bastille, Passion Pit, and Foster the People joining him on some tracks. Might be my favorite electronic album of the year.
2. Matt and Kim: New Glow
Genre- Indie electronic pop
RIYL- GroupLove, Passion Pit, Two Door Cinema Club
Information- Basically this album was made for happy hipsters. I can only imagine Portland hipsters walking around to this with a little pep in their step (Portlandia stereotyping right there). Anyways, you guys should know this artist from their popular song “Daylight” from a couple years back.  Some good hit songs on this album for sure.
3. Kuroma: Kuromarama
Genre- Indie Rock , Psychedelic
RIYL- MGMT, Foxygen, Growlers
Information- So this album was actually done by a member of MGMT. Lo-Fi garage glam at it’s finest. This is the epitome of what indie rock is. Has some psychedelic sounds infused into it (think MGMT) and sounds just wonderful.
4. PPL MVR: The One and Only
Genre- Alternative Rock, Experimental
RIYL- Marilyn Manson, Muse
Information- Interesting artist to say the least. They wear caveman/monkey suits, so yeah. You get the gist. Has some psychedelic feels to it, with hard rock guitar riffs as well. First track is amazing. Start there and explore.
5. Alison Wonderland
Genre- Electronic, Hip Hop
RIYL- Flume, Odesza, Purity Ring, Halsey
Information- Similar to Madeon listed above, put has more of a hip hop feel to it. Has some great drops to it and even has appearances from Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, Lido, and producer SAFIA.

Rap has become a huge genre at KMSC this past semester. Newcomer last week, Greg Grease, shot up in our charts from number 30 to our number 2 spot this week! I don’t think I’ve ever seen an artist rise so quickly and jump so far in our charts this year! The Indie rock genre has some major players such as The Districts, Island Apollo, and Midnight Pilot who have been steady at the top of our charts for a couple weeks now. Expecting to see a jump from newcomers Strung Out and Sufjan Stevens this next week in our charts.

KMSC Closing Dates

KMSC will be moving from the Comstock Memorial Union to Flora Frick Hall this summer. We will officially be closing down KMSC on May 1st and will be doing our last charting at CMJ on May 4th.

We are very excited to be moving near the Mass Communication department and hope to build KMSC in the next year.

We do have three positions open- Station Manager, Music Director, and Program Director- for next year. If you are interested please contact kmscdragonradio@gmail.com for an application.

Until May rolls around, we will keep on broadcasting, so keep tuning in and listen to our awesome DJ’s!
