KMSC 2018 Vinylthon!!!

Join KMSC as we participate in Vinylthon. We will be playing about two hours of nothing but vinyl at the station and hope to keep the spirit of vinyl alive and kicking!!!

“We want to remind everyone that for many of us, vinyl is still very important,” says, Quicke. “Before computer algorithms and commercially-driven streaming services there was college radio. And we passionately believe that we are still the best musical curators out there!” added Quicke.

The event was organized by the College Radio Foundation, a non-profit charity based in New Jersey, that also organizes the annual College Radio Day event (this year on November 4). The CRD event unites hundreds of USA college radio stations every year and has been recognized and supported by such public figures and artists such as President Obama, Moby, Coldplay, Wilco, Andrew WK, Aviici, The Lumineers, Wyclef Jean among others. TIME called College Radio Day ““A nationwide movement…illuminating the cultural significance of student-run radio.”

You can check it out on dragonradio.org, on the dial at 1500am or Dragon Channel 97.5 and 98.1 in the residence halls of MSUM.

KMSC Interviews Kohli Calhoun!!!

KMSC is fortunate enough to be interviewing the one and only, Kohli Calhoun!!!

We were fortunate enough to be given another interview opportunity from the one and only, Kohli Calhoun.
The past eight years have been a challenging time for Brooklyn-based Kohli Calhoun.
Following an unfavorable parting of ways with the producer of her never-released debut in 2008, the singer/songwriter made her retreat from music and unwittingly initiated a personal dark age. It was not until a Brooklyn songwriting community helped her reconnect with her artistic self that Calhoun recognized the error of her ways, and in 2014 she began writing again in a bid to make amends.
Take Me Away is Kohli’s poetic rise from the ashes. Made over the course of the last year, the album is thematically bookended by the singles it has already produced. Two pillars upon which the record stands – one concerning escape, one about wanting to stay – Take Me Away and Phantom serve as a blueprint for the album. The remaining songs are written from the tension point between these two extremes and are steeped in a rare honesty and an endearing pain.

Check us out as we interview the very talented Kohli Calhoun, April 15th at 4pm ct!!!
